Besides the few times you need a very bright light, we think LED is the way to go, but when kayaking you sometimes need a bright light and LED does not cut it. While LED "bulbs" last almost forever and use very little power so the batteries last a long time, they don't throw out the light that a halogen bulb gives out. The problem with halogen is that they eat batteries. Who cares how much light a headlamp produces, if the batteries are dead. The Duo LED 5 solves these problems by having both a halogen light which is very bright, but only lasts approximately 3 hours and a five LED side which burns for 150+ hours. The LED side is brighter then the Zipka and Tikka which both only have 3 LEDs. As a bonus the Petzl Duo LED 5 is waterproof to 165 feet. The Hologen side can be focused from a wide to narrow beam. Some paddlers cover the LED side with Red for night navigation.
Petzl Says: The Duo LED 5 has a dual light source that you can change with the flip of a lockable switch, giving you the ability to see far when you
need to and conserve batteries when you only need to see a shorter distance.
The Halogen light source is adjustable and allows you to vary the width of the beam. Comes with 1 spare halogen bulb inside the lamp housing.
The LED Module has 5 high intensity white LED bulbs that should last for several years of use.
